The JDS Uniphase 57TM series dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmitter module is designed for use in telecommunication systems and high speed data communications applications requiring DWDM operation. This flexible module incorporates Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) injection which, when used with the companion FSK receiver (54RM), allows control and status of a given network without requiring additional fiber. The transmitter is compatible with the multisource agreement (MSA) specification, which defines a uniform package, pin function definitions, and common optical and electrical characteristics.

The 57TM features a unique design using a cooled laser with thermoelectric cooler (TEC) that results in a very stable optical output which is ideally suited for DWDM applications. The transmitter module is housed in a low profile, 24-pin dual inline package similar to the 54RM FSK receiver. When used together with the 54RM, the combination 57TM/54RM set provides a complete, economical, and reliable solution for extended-distance data and network applications over fiber spans of up to 180 km.
